I love the idea of bento box lunches for my kiddos. While I don’t always have the time, I find that having the right stuff helps tremendously. Today, I’m sharing Bento Box Tips and Giveaway for my dear readers! I consider myself a bento box beginner – and I don’t stress out about having a perfectly packed lunch each day. The truth is, many days my kiddos get whatever is the fastest and easiest thing to throw together.
When you’re putting together a bento style lunch, the thing to remember is to keep it simple and make it fun. Sure you could go all out molding the food, carving faces and all the rest, but the reality is that this is something your kids are going eat, so why waste a ton of energy on making it super elaborate? Here are my golden rules for bento box lunches and snacks:
Keep it Simple
It’s easy to get carried away when putting together a bento box style lunch. The key to not getting frustrated is to keep it simple. Using a cute sandwich cutter is an easy way to make a lunch more fun. Bright colored silicon baking cups are great for holding foods and cute picks make eating fun, too! Olivia is super girly, so I used a butterfly sandwich cutter to make her lunch a little more fun. Of course, she has to have strawberries – they’re her favorite fruit!
Olivia love cucumbers, too, so I used the Stainless Steel Vegetable Cutters to make her slices into little flowers. She used the Animals Food Picks to pop them in her mouth! It only took a minute more to cute them up, and the kids helped. Getting kids in the kitchen at an early age helps promote healthy eating habits – you know, as long as your making healthy stuff! Of course, it’s also good for learning about counting, measuring, colors and lots more.
Make Snack Time Fun
Getting Ethan to eat his “healthies” is sometimes very challenging. Switching up a snack like apples and peanut butter with a few mini chocolate chips as a treat can make all the difference sometimes. I used rectangular silicon baking cups to hold these little treats. They’re reusable of course, multi-purpose and even dishwasher safe!
