I just love the idea of treat cones for a birthday party - they're so fun, and by making your own, you can really tie them int the overall theme of your party. I made some last year for Olivia's first birthday party, but they were too big for the little ones to hold. This year, I decided to make these a simple mini-treat cones.
Best of all, here's a great template you can use to make your own mini cones! Click here to download the free template.
Materials:
Template
Scissors or craft knife
Glue
Decorative paper
Instructions:
Print it out on an 8x11 piece of cardstock and cut the shape out. I like using a cardstock piece since it's sturdier for handling over and over again, but regular paper will do if you don't have it.
Next, find some pretty paper - I like to use 12x12 paper, but a thinner stock than what you might use for card making because it is easier to bend and shape. If you use a 12x12 shape, you'll be able to get 4 cones out of each sheet.
Smear a thin line of glue on one straight edge, then gently bend the paper to make the cone shape and press the other straight edge into the glue line. I found that I had to hold the seams together for a few moments.
Let the cone set up for a bit... I did all mine a week before the party (I was so organized for this one!) On the day of the party, we filled these with Pirates Booty - one of my kiddos favorite treats! The cones were just the right size for little hands to hold, and held just the right amount for a little snack!
We popped a few of the mini DIY Decorative Pinwheels into a few of the cups to add some extra pizazz!
Plus, BONUS! I persuaded Mr. Juggling Act to build me this beautiful treat cone box that I can use over and over again for parties - yahoo! He used Smashed Peas & Carrots template here as a starting point, and repurposed some materials from a broken door and leftover paint, so it didn't cost a dime.
Then we just decorated it with the same Minnie cut outs that were throughout our theme (stay tuned for more on the party soon!)
